Many tv shows or films try to use live animals to make the setting more realistic, however, using these animals for entertainment is still cruel. Animals have natural instincts that make them want to avoid humans and even lots of training can't fully get rid of it. On set, animals are surrounded by humans, often making them scared or uncormatable. In addition to all the problems associated with keeping wild animals in captivity, animals used in filming have been mistreated, injured, or even killed on set.
Animals are used in sports all the time, whether that be racing, rodeos, bull fighting, or even illegal dogfights. These animals are kept in absolutely horrible conditions. They are starved, drugged, beaten to be made more agressive, and weakened to make it easier for humans to harm them. Most sport animals end up dead, whether that be during the actual sport, like in bullfights or recreational hunting, or afterwards, like in dogfights, dogs who are considered too slow to race are often sold to research facilities or killed About 20,000 are killed each year; very few are adopted.
Animals used in the circus are treated terrible. Trainers can get away with torturing the animals as the government doesn't moniter training sessions. They use whips, muzzles, and electric shocks to keep the animals in line and keep them confined to small spaces. The animals never get to roam around as they are kept in cages when they travel and even when they aren't travelling they are still kept in places that are much too small.
Places like Sea World may appear to be saving marine animals but in reality they aren't helping at all. Orcas and dolphins are kept in tanks that are much too small for them, they can only swim around in circles for the rest of their life. They are forced to put on shows and are often seen injuring themselves trying to escape. Even interactive pools are bad for the animals as humans introduce new types of bacteria to the animals when they go in the water and touch them.
